11 day south island new zealand tours
Your New Zealand motorcycle tour commences in Christchurch, the most English of New Zealand cities, famous for it's beautiful gardens. Explore the city on foot - take a punt on the River Avon, catch a tram or visit the museum and Botanic Gardens.
We leave Christchurch and head north along the coast to the thermal resort of Hanmer Springs, an idyllic little town set in a basin of forest clad mountains and natural hot springs where we can soak our aches away.
We leave Hanmer for the amazing Lewis Pass - a fabulous scenic ride all the way to the wild, rocky west coast. Here we visit the amazing Pancake Rocks and blow holes. Pancake Rocks began forming 30 million years ago when limestone was overlaid with softer mudstone in a succession of layers over years, resulting in a pancake effect. In rough seas the sound of the blowholes can be heard for miles.
We ride the West Coast to Glacier Country - the twisting roads are demanding here, but magic riding. Nowhere else in the world at this latitude have glaciers advanced so close to the coast. These majestic, awe inspiring spectacles are amazing seen from the ground and breathtaking seen from above. Take a helicopter around Mount Cook and land on the glazier - a trip you'll never forget.
Reputably 'The best motorcycling in the world' is our next motorcycle touring experience on the West Coast Road, designed by motorcycle designer John Britten's grandfather. The famous Haast Pass 'motorcycle heaven' is today's tour agenda. We ride through river plains, alongside crystal clear lakes and Southern Alps on our way to Queenstown - 'adventure playground of the world'. We tour along the shores of beautiful Lake Wanaka, then across the Crown Range with awe inspiring views and tight hairpins. Just when you think there can't be any more spectacular scenery - there it is - Queenstown, nestled above Lake Wakatipu with stunning views across the lake to The Remarkables. We'll give you plenty of time in Queenstown to experience this fantastic New Zealand resort.
Take a ride to nearby Arrowtown, a beautiful unspoilt turn-of-the-century town, enjoy lunch at the Gibston Valley Winery near the famous AJ Hackett Bungee Jump, white water raft or jet boat the Shotover River, or go horse trekking over the Remarkables.
Our motorcycle tour takes us around Lake Wakatipu to Fiordland, a million hectares of remote, primaeval beauty and one of the few places on the planet of untouched wilderness. Waterfalls tumble hundreds of metres into pristine forested valleys. The mirror surfaces of the fiords reflect majestic, towering mountains. Dolphins, seals and Fiordland penguins make their home here. This is where silence takes on new meaning. A complementary cruise on Milford Sound is included with your Elite guided motorcycle tour. You can also take a boat trip across Lake Te Anau to the stunning Glow Worm Caves.
Our tour continues through Central Otago on our way to the very scottish New Zealand city of Dunedin. Explore Dunedin and the Otago Peninsula. We can see rare royal albatross and yellow eyed penguins along the winding beautiful coastline.
Our next touring adventure is riding the famous Lindis Pass, an undulating ride through the mountains to Central Otago. We'll be riding in the foothills of the Alps, passing huge lakes along our way. The scenery is stunning and your camera will be working overtime!
We ride to the crystal clear Lake Tekapo with fantastic views of the tallest mountain in New Zealand, Mount Cook, stop at the Church of the Good Shepherrd and visit a salmon farm. Our tour heads for Christchurch via Burkes Pass and the lush green Canterbury plains. We arrive in Christchurch and sadly say our good byes when we take you to the airport and see you safely on your way home.
